30 years ahead – The changing energy landscape and its implications on society

Germany covers 30% of its electricity demand from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, and is often used as a role model to show that a transformation toward green energy is possible. 

Many regions in the US and traditional energy corporations are now following suit, seeing an attractive long term market opportunity in building green energy systems. 

While several advances have been made to jumpstart green energy initiatives, the transition of the remaining 70% to green energy remains a significant challenge. In this panel, we explore what would be the consequences of transforming the other 70% to green energy. 

We will not only discuss which technologies are required for such an energy transformation, but also focus on what such a transformation mean for an equitable society, in terms of jobs, changes in our daily routines, and overall quality of life. By bringing together practitioners from policy, energy service distribution, business and technology development, we hope to reveal key insights into comprehensive, integrated solutions to transform the energy sector.

Transforming societies to such a massive scale, as for the energy transition, requires breaking barriers in research, the way we manage job transitions and re-training efforts, and the way we communicate the challenges and opportunities associated with this transition to achieve an equitable, sustained energy environment.
